Words Heal

Wishbone words, the appropriate first publication for my words

I regularly write about the use of writing as a therapeutic device. Still, I also write about my personal experience as a disabled person as part of my own therapeutic journey of healing or at least support. There is no “healing” from many chronic illnesses and disabilities, at least not in the traditional sense, and not currently. What we can work towards is a place of homeostasis and commitment to maintenance to keep ourselves “healthy” for what we can each reasonably expect. Healthy already looks different for each person, even more so for those of us who are disabled.

I have been contributing to publications on the lovely self-publishing site Medium.com. As well as having been put into some anthologies, (which I can’t even recall the publishers of,) in middle and high school, but that was nearly 20 years ago. Since renewing my writing routine, I have slowly renewed my submission activity to literary magazines and journals.

The first to accept and publish my work is the wonderful Wishbone Words. It is an online creative writing magazine for chronically ill and disabled writers and artists. I have three poems coming in issue twelve and more in issue thirteen. I will likely continue contributing to this magazine, as I appreciate its mission and find the art they put in it encouraging and inspiring. I also follow them on Instagram and love seeing the art regularly.

I have already bought a three-euro subscription to the magazine, so I can support the continued publication, as there was no submission fee. So I will be able to enjoy seeing my work alongside other creatives expressing their experience with disability. If you want to check out this unique magazine and read my work when it is published in these upcoming issues, check out Wishbone Words here.

I anticipate Issue Twelve should be coming out soon, but I couldn’t find an actual projected date of publication on their website.

Thanks so much for your support here on Substack, your love and support for the art of writing, and your fellow writers.
