Magic on Strings

Acrostic inspiration on my favorite instrumentation.

Here we have the first piece inspired by the show I saw on Thursday. The Lindsey Stirling Snow Waltz tour was terrific. I will have more on that in this week’s newsletter, but I wanted to start the week off with this little poetical snack.

An acrostic take on the Violin. I love the acrostic format and have done several; the others will appear sooner or later.

Growing up, spending time doing ballet, I developed a loving relationship with instrumental music. Piano and violin are my favorite, as they are so versatile and capture such a range of sounds. I love the violin because of the range and depth of sound it can produce. Few instruments beyond electronic devices can create so many different sounds with one compact instrument.

I am fascinated by the way the vibrations and sound waves function. How the amount of pressure the artist places on the strings drastically changes what sound will be produced. I am amazed by the subtle variations in how the bow is held or moved, and the amount of force with which it is applied all affect the tone and volume as well. It really is a sort of magic… Ahhh—Like wizardry, a magic that would take years of training and hard work to master.
